How this place only has 4.1 stars as of this writing is insane. It's definitely a 5 star restaurant. It is by FAR the best sushi & sushi rice in LA hands down. Simply incredible. Ella was super sweet and fast. Her service was perfect. Thanks Sugar Fish!!! I'll be back soon.

Sugarfish Sushi by Nozawa has a fresh, clean, simple yet sophisticated vibe when you walk in. The menu is very curated yet it does cover the gamet of fish, just not extravagant rolls or non-sushi related dishes. It is perfect for raw, clean eating. The setting is perfect for eating alone or with a group. My colleague and I shared: the Trust Me Lite - the tuna sashimi melted in my mouth + Bay scallop handroll - perfect flavor, rice cooked to perfection, wrapped with crisp seaweed + Unagi nigiri - lighter than I am used to yet spot on flavor Perfect lunch spot if you work in DTLA and can walk there.

I've been here a few times now and always have a good experience. I never have to wait more than 10 minutes and service is always prompt. The fish has great quality and great price point. I always get the Trust Me which is the perfect portion for lunch and comes with two hand rolls. They have no issues with swapping out the crab hand roll for a yellowtail one which I prefer.

Orange County has some really great omakase sushi places (oshmima is my top pick), so I really wanted to try sugar fish because I've heard great reviews on their omakase. We were in a bit of a rush because we had to catch the ballet, and they were able to accommodate our expedited request. So many delicious courses. We split the highest level omakase and it was the perfect amount of food to feel perfectly satiated. Not too little, not too much, just right. Kind of like a little red riding hood story. I had a beer with my food and it was served in a cold glass (the only way to drink Japanese beer). I can't remember all the types of fish they served but I'll post the photos. The downtown LA sugarfish sushi is a dark, cozy vibe with a slight industrial feel to it. It hard to find the front door because the address takes you to a multi unit building. It's a single door entrance with a few steps leading up to the door. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It's my go to spot when I'm in DTLA.
